Memory 1
A Close Call: For Christmas Holiday, campus is very quiet - mostly clinical students only. It was a very cold December morning and three of us decided it was too cold to bathe; the obvious solution was to sneak on to the girls block (Taylor Hall) where there were very few female students and warm water in the showers.
The porter, 'brasshead', apparently suspected that boys were bathing in the girls block. He approached the locked door to the bathroom area and knocked, shouting 'open, open'. I managed to hear his shout in spite of the pouring shower. I shrieked in the highest, loudest falsetto scream I could manage 'Man on the block, man on the block'. 'Brasshead' fled the scene. A sympathetic female clinical student allowed us through a back door as we suspected 'brasshead' would be waiting at the entrance.
Memory 2
Beast in my Bedroom: In 1969, the boys moved a cow into the room (block B, Taylor Hall) of an 'uncooperative' freshman. Clearly, the cow had profuse diarrhrea. The guy was informed that there was 'a beast in his room'. He returned promptly to find cow with fresh dung everywhere, bed, walls, desk etc. They immediately left campus and lived his entire 3 years off campus. That year, Kester Branford won Calypso King with the song ' A cow in Meh Bedroom' - the chorus of which sang 'What had everybody guessing was how the cow shit on the ceiling'.
