Memories
Memory 1
My first memory is of walking up the spine of Irvine Hall and being stopped along the way to be given instructions about the proper way to respond when I was asked to say my name, “It is freshman...”. I then had to do push-ups and the rest is a blur. It stands out in my memory as a pleasant way to be introduced to my new student colleagues.
Memory 2
Then there was 2nd. MB. Dissection in the anatomy lab. I don’t ever think I will get rid of the smell of formalin from my nose. And I can remember Prof. D A N Hoyte, “mass action from the splenic flexure”. I formed a very special bond with Cedric Harper, especially as he was a former athlete and shotput thrower. He still had a shotput which he allowed me to use for practice.
Memory 3
Last but not least is the memory of mealtime and ‘spooning’. This alone gave me the sense of oneness with the rest of the student body.
