SCHOLAR-SHEPHERD, Agatha
1974 Biography 2018
I graduated from 1974 class and did my internship in Barbados. In 1975, a group of us, Winston Seale, Trevor Shepherd, Refern Nyack and myself migrated to Zambia to work. There we met Carl Regisford and made some beautiful friendships among the locals. We befriended doctors from Gambia, Sierra leone, Zimbabwa, India and South Africa.
Medicine was absolutely different from western medicine. It was there I encountered my first case of HIV infection, but we didn’t know at the time what strange disease it was. I left Zambia and spent 6 months in Kenya before returning home. I rejoined the staff at QEH and left in 1988 to open my private practice in Obstetrics/Gyneacology.
All my surgeries and Deliveries were done at the only Private Hospital, BayView. That stint afforded me the opportunity to become Chairperson of BayView Medical Staff Association and followed shortly after by Chairperson of BayView Hospital till it was sold in 2014.
I am now in pre-retirement and at 71 years of age I am enjoying my family, my gardening and traveling.
