“We don't let just anybody in,” Diaz says. “We're looking for quality work and great designs, and a variety of styles that way the public has a lot to choose from.”
Ink Masters Don Peddicord and Cris Element were in attendance,and Peddicord participated in a six-artist collab, with tattooers taking turns on a large back piece. The artwork of a women's face surrounded by filigree and roses took 11 hours to complete.
All of the regular contests were held, and Josh “Eon” Johnson, from Denver's Mr. Tank's Tattoo, took best of show with a horror piece in his signature polka trash + realism style. The honors are definitely earned, as the judging is strict, and points are given for technique and not just that a piece looks cool. Along with an award plaque to hang in their studio, the winners received ink sets from Intenze.
Along with Intenze, sponsors for the show includes Razorblade Tattoo, Piercing & Medical Supplies, Wild West Harley-Davidson and Texas Ink Custom Apparel.
One of the most unique features of the show was a “Hole in the Wall” booth where for $25 people could stick their arm or leg though a hole in a makeshift wall, and get a random quarter-size tattoo that took no more than 30 seconds could be anything from an ice cream cone to a laser gun or unicorn. “People thought it was awesome,” Diaz says. “It's perfect for those that want a tattoo but don't know what to get O
