MY PROCESS MFrom research research to to to sketches comps and the the nal piece
y y y y creative process I I do give myself enough time always starts with to get out as as as many ideas as as as I I I I research It all begins can Next I'll I'll walk away and with with a a a a meeting where I'll talk with with the the client to nd out their needs budget goals and and timeline If branding is needed we'll go through a a a a a questionnaire or or branding sprint to nd nd out out more about their business so so I can have some idea about where to start with their concepts Once I've got a a a a a good idea about what the the voice and tone of their concepts should be I'll I'll move onto researching competitors so I'll I'll know how to to help the the client stand apart fromthecrowd I'llspendtime looking through sources of good design for inspiration whether that's magazines like Communication Arts design blogs like FormFiftyFive or or or AIGA's Eye on Design or or or even Pinterest Then it's time for sketching I prefer just a a a a a blank sheet of paper a a a a a a a a pencil and an an an eraser Nothing fancy though the the example on the the left shows how how I used tracing paper to quickly sketch out various iterations of the same concept I really don't spend too much time creating hundreds of thumbnails but
do something else so so that when I I come back I'll have fresh eyes and can choose my top 3 sketches to to to take to to to the computer From that point I transfer my my sketches to my my design program of choice depending on the project and begin laying out my design I I can work rather quickly but
I I try to to take time to to step back and review my work as I I go so that that I I won't spend too much time going down a a a a path that that might not be working I like to share my my work work with my my colleagues at various points along the way to get an an outsider's perspective and make sure the message is coming across When I'm done I I take a a a minute to pat myself on on the back but
I know better than to to to get too attached to to to any one piece
of work I create My process allows me to to sell my ideas to to the the the client since they are all all backed by the the the information that was initially gathered In the the the end it's the the the client who will will decide which of the the concepts will will best suit their needs
