Through this course, students will identify and demonstrate an appreciation of the differences between cultures of the world and learn specific and universal issues facing these cultures. Students will also trace the historical and cultural development of Africa, East Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Students will develop and utilize geographic, historical and also cultural literacy skills to help understand how geography, history, and culture connects to real life.

Through Advanced Placement Human Geography, students will understand how they fit into the global society of the 21st century. Students will recognize and interpret at different scales the relationships among patterns and processes. Students will understand and interpret social organization and its environmental consequences as well as the changing interconnections among places. Through this course, students will be prepared to take the Advanced Placement Human Geography Exam in the spring.

This course is required of all tenth grade students. Students study major turning points that shaped the modern world from the late eighteenth century through the present. Students will trace the rise of democratic ideas & develop an understanding of the historical roots of current world issues. Through this course, students will develop an understanding of current world issues and relate them to their historical, geographic, political, economic, and cultural contexts.

AP World History is designed to be the equivalent of a two-semester introductory college or university World History course. The AP World History course focuses on developing students’ understanding of world history from approximately 8000 B.C.E. to the present. The course has students investigate the content of world history for significant events, individuals, developments, and processes in six historical periods, and develop and use the same thinking skills and methods (analyzing primary and secondary sources, making historical comparisons, chronological reasoning, and argumentation) employed by historians when they study the past. The course also provides five themes (interaction between humans and the environment; development and interaction of cultures; state building, expansion, and conflict; creation, expansion, and interaction of economic systems; development and transformation of social structures) that students explore
