The prophet Daniel "...understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem" and said, "I set my face unto the LORD myGod,toseekbyprayerandsup plications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: and I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said...we have sinned" Paniel 9:1-20).
The Word of God declares, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness" (II Timothy 3:16).
The Command to Repent
While preaching in Athens, the apostle Paul declared, "And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now conunandeth all men everywhere torepent"(Acts17:30). IntheOldTestament,Godcommandedthenation of Israel to ref)ent and return each time the people turned away from God.

In time of God's impending judgment, Joel exhort^, "Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fast ing, and with weepint and with mourning And rend your heart, and not your garments and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. John the Baptist sounded the command to repent across the land ofIsrael andalongtheJordanRivertopreparethewayofthecomingMessiah. Itis writteninLuke3,"John...came...preachingthebaptismofrepentance."
