on earth was in complete obedience to the Word of God, "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered" (Hebrews 5:8). (See Philippians 2:6-8.) Jesus set His seal of authority on the New Testament writings G Peter 1:12; John 16:12-13; Acts 1:8; John 20:31; Revelation 1:3,11,19; Revelation 22:7, 18-19). We read in the gospels that "Noteveryonethatsaithuntome.Lord,Lord, shallenterinto the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven"
(Matthew 7:21). "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that lovethme..." Cohn 14:21). (See also John 14:15, 23-24; 15:9-10; I John 2:3-5.) Therefore, acceptance of the Lordship of Jesus, and obedience to the written Word of God cannot be divorced. To reject the one is to reject the other. Itiswritten, "And being made perfect, he became the author of eter nal salvation unto all them that obey Him" (Hebrews 5:9).
3.9 TheTruthfulnessofScripture
The Bible is a precious compilation of the inspired words of the one God, who is true and faithful (II Corinthians 1:18; Revelation 6:10; 19:11; Hebrews 6:18; Numbers 23:19; 1Samuel 15:29; Titus 1:2; Psalm 119:142; John 17:17; Psalm 19:7-9). The written Word asserts in many ways its own truthfulness. Truly, truth can only be what God's word is.
The Word of God reveals its own nature:
• "EverywordofGodispure...."(Proverbs30:5)
• ^^Thywordistruefromthebeginning...." (Psalm119:160)
"For ever, OLORD, thy word is settled in heaven." (Psalm 119:89)
• The word of our God shall stand for ever." (Isaiah 40:8) (See also, I Peter 1:25; Matthew 24:35)
• Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it..." (Deuteronomy 4:2)
• "...the Scripture cannot be broken;" 0ohn 10:35) (See I Kings 8:56; Psalm 93:5)
• Let God be true, but every man a liar..." (Romans 3:4)
• All things must be fulfilled, which were written." (Luke 24:44) (Also look at Matthew 5:18 and Acts 1:16.)
Trustworthiness is the inherent quality of the inspired Word of God, where history, prophecy, and salvational events are closely interrelated. "Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit
it hath gathered them" (Isaiah 34:16).
