out of my mouth; it shall not return unto me void, but is shall accom plish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isaiah55:10-11). Thispassage tells us that the word sent forth from God accomplishes that which pleased Him. All acts of God are put into motion by His word (See Isaiah 45:3; Deuteronomy 8:3).
• Moses, recalling to the children of Israel the giving of the Ten Conunandments by the Lord at Mount Horeb said, "And the LORD spake unto you out of the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but saw no similitude, only ye heard a voice" (Deuteronomy 4:12). The people stood before the Lord's presence that was manifest ed by the voice of His word.
• "Hesenthisword, andhealedthem, anddeliveredthemfromtheir destruction" (Psalm 107:20). The healing act of God is performed by His word (See Psalm 18:13; 103:20; 105:19; 105:31-35; 138:4).
Thus, werealizethatHisWordalwaysbackseveryactofGod. Thevoice . of His word manifests His presence. Scripture abounds in metaphors
expressing theword ofGod in action. We find the Word taken as:
• The arm of God (Psalm 29:4^' 68:33; 89:13; Isaiah 40:10; 51:5; 531- 59:16; 63:12)
• TherighthandofGod (Psalm18:35,98:1;Isaiah62:8)
• TherodofHismouth (Isaiah11:4;Psalm23:4;Psalm2:9)
• The wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God (Proverbs 2-6-
Proverbs 3:19,20) " ' • ThelightofGod(Psalm119:105,Isaiah2:5;Psalm36:9;John1:4-5)
• TheswordofGod (Isaiah1:20;Hebrews4:12;Ephesians6:17)
• The power and glory of God (Hebrews 12:19-21; Hebrews 12:26-27; Deuteronomy 5:22-27; John 1:14; Isaiah 42:8-13; Isaiah 35:2; 40)
• TheconsumingfireofGod (Jeremiah23:29;Jeremiah5:14;Isaiah31:9)
• ThepromisedseedofGod (Genesis3:15;IPeter1:23-25;Isaiah40:3-8; Genesis 17:1-14; Galatians 3:15-28; I John 3:9).
No one can maintain that the Word of God in the Old Testament is the sec ond person in the Godhead. God's word is an aspect of Him and cannot be separated from Him. The Word of God does not imply a tactile (distinct) per
son any more than a man's word implies that he is composed of two per sons. Thewords ofGodthatgoforth out of his mouth are the activities of God Himself. When He sends His Word to heal. He is the healer. When He sends His Word to destroy. He isthe destroyer. When He sends His Word to
deliver. He is the deliverer. When He sends His Word to give life to the dead.
