He is life giver. When He sends His Word to put wisdom in the minds of His servants. He is the wisdom giver (source of wisdom). When He sends His Word to give knowledge to His people. He is the author of knowledge (See Proverbs 1:20-33; Proverbs 8:1-36; Proverbs 9:1-6).
4.3 The One God is Spirit (Holy Spirit)
The invisible, omnipresent. Almighty God said to the prostrated and imploring Moses, "Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live" (Exodus 33: 20), "Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?" (Isaiah 66:1). What a beautiful
majestic declaration of the eternal One, the creator of the heavens who in time past had revealed Himself as an invisible Spirit to the patriarchs of Israel! We find a similar declaration of God in Jeremiah 23:23,24: "Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heav en and earth? saith the LORD."
"God is a Spirit" found in John 4:24 is the true testimony of Christ; "and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth." According to Exodus 22:20, we cannot worship two gods. From the words of Christ on the day of His resurrection, we have the authoritative descrip tion of what a spirit is not. This is recorded in Luke 24:39: "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me and see, for a spirit hath
no flesh and bones, as ye see me have."
Job described the invisibility of God in a very interesting way, "Lo, He goes by me, and I see Him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive Him not" (Job 9:11). Similarly Job says, "Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive Him: On the left hand, where He doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth Himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him" Qob 23:8-9). Indeed Moses warned Israel in Deuteronomy 4:12-19, not to engrave the Lord God in any shape whatsoever, seeing He
bears no distinct figure (I Timothy 1:17). Indeed there has been no person in any period of time who saw or physically touched the Spirit of God (John 1:18).
The Old Testament indeed has much to say about the Lord God, who is Spirit. The Law, the Prophets and the scriptures combine to bring one basic lesson. There is one God, who is Spirit. God is self-existent with no one besides Him. Many teach that the Spirit of God is a separate person of the Godhead. Consequently, they refer to the Spirit of God as "God the Holy
