46 ♦ Bible Writers' Theology Chapter Four
(Colossians 1:15; Romans 1:20; I Timothy 1:17; I Timothy 6:16; I John 4:12). Scripture affirms however, some day the redeemed will see Him (Job 19:25- 27; Matthew 5:8; Psalms 17:15; Revelation 224;1214; I Thessalonians 4:13-18).
Youaskhowaboutthescripturesthatsaythatsome men of the Biblesaw God; men such as Jacob (Genesis 3230); Moses (Exodus 3:6;24:9-10; N u m b e r s 1 2 : 6 - 8; Deuteronomy 34:10); Isaiah (Isaiah 6:1); and Ezekiel (1:26-28). The answer is that they did not literally see Him face to face, but rather saw the reflec tion of God's glory, through the agency of angels or symbolic forms, like a dove. TheBiblesaysthatnomanhasseenGodatanytimeQohn1:18).
WhenMosesaskedtoseeGodinExodus33:18-23;Godanswered that he would see His glory. However, there is no indication in this passage that Moses actually saw God's "back parts" (verse 23). Since there is no one that has seen God face to face, the "Angel of the Lord" or the "Angel of His pres ence" was a manner of manifestation of the invisible God (See Acts 7:33-38* Hosea 12:3-4; Genesis 32:30; 19:1-13; C5enesis 18:13-33; 22:11-18; Exodus 3*2- 5; 23:20-23; Judges 6:11-23; I Kings 19:5-7; II Kings 19:35; Hebrews 1:1-3).
C He is Alive
Life implies feeling, power, and activity; therefore, God is a living being He is also the source and support of all life: plant, animal, human, spiritual and eternal (I Timothy 3:15; Daniel 6:26-27; Jeremiah 10:10; Joshua 3:10; Acts
14:15; I Thessalonians 1:9-10). Our God is alive; He sees. He hears, and He loves. Other gods and evil spirits, as well as human beings, cannot be con trasted with the living God.
D Individuality
The very idea of Spirit implies a unique personality. The only way of determining what the Spirit is like, apart from the scriptures, is by analogy with the "Pneuma" or "wind" and with the human spirit. Therefore, God is
an individual being with an unique, definite identity and personality. God, in his individuality or spiritual personality, is a self-conscious being.
God is unique and all things identify with this unique individuality or personality:
• His intellect
• Hissensibility
