Unseen Hands
haven't sunk to hounding women with their babies yet. Erkenesh tore the notebook into little pieces and
burned it when she got home. She already knew the con tents by heart.
Temare set the stage for the saddest of all internal problems; yet at the end ofthe story, all concerned could rejoice and testify that Romans 8:28 is true. God makes all things work together for good!
Deep hatred of Brother Wendell moved Temare to make wild predictions against him. He did it slyly behind Tekle s back, because after the letter episode Tekle re buked him if he said anything against their leader. He had ample opportunity to sow the seeds of bitterness while Tekle traveled to the sixteen churches under his super vision.
The problem came to a head during one of Tekle's trips. Still weak from the difficult birth of Mousse, Erkenesh remained in Awasa in a rented house. Some of Brother Wendell's advisors visited the church and heard Temare vilify Brother Wendell. Motivated by longstanding envy of Tekle, they reported that Tekle was using Temare to fight against the missionaries. They also accused Tekle of teaching many false doctrines, including the "fire fallacy" that tongues of fire is always seen on those filled with the Spirit as on the Day of Pentecost in
the upper room.
Kenneth Wendell was suffering from a progressive
disease thatlefthis nerves raw, buthefelt that heshould go to Awasa and investigate the matter. Without authori ty from Tekle, Temare insisted that the church people missschoolandworkinorderto"fastandpray" atthe church on the day that Brother Wendell came.
