people] were punished was aimed not at their conduct but at their belief. Inasmuch as they considered themselves to be the only true Church, they would not accept the [Trinitarian] baptism of those who had been baptized by the Catholics and later joined the Donatists. In such instances baptism was repeated. [In the Name of Jesus] The law of the Roman Empire made this the offence, and the same law centuries after was used against the Baptist.” [Or the Anabaptist and Jesus Name people.]
The International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, p.338, says: "The formula of the Trinity is given in Matthew 28:19, but it is curious that the words are not given in any description of Christian Baptism until the times of Justin Martyr: and there they are not repeated exactly. In every account of the performance of the rite in apostolic times a much shorter formula is in use, namely “IN THE NAME OF JESUS”. The longer formula of Matthew 28:19 became universal only in the sub-apostolic [Catholic] Church at which time triune immersion was invented. Tertullian said: “And it is not only once, but thrice, that we are immersed into the three persons, once at each several mention of their names.” The [Catholic] Church gave injunctions [rewards blessings] to use the longer [Trinity] formula, and punishment including deposition, and threatened those who presumed to use the shorter [Jesus Name formula].” (See Matthew 10:22 and 24:9.)
The Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible 1962, page 351 “The evidence of Acts 2:38; 10:48 (cf. 8:16; 19:5), supported by Gal. 3:27; Rom. 6:3, suggests that baptism in early Christianity was administered, not in the threefold name, but “in the name of Jesus Christ” or in the Name of the Lord Jesus.”
Doctrine and Practice in the Early Church: By Dr. Stuart G. Hall 1992, pages 20 and 21. Professor Stuart G. Hall was the former Chair of Ecclesiastical History at King's College, London England. Dr. Hall makes the factual statement that Catholic Trinitarian Baptism was not the original form of Christian baptism, rather the original was Jesus name baptism. "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit," although those words were not used, as they later are, as a formula. Not all baptisms fitted this rule." Dr Hall further, states: "More common and perhaps more ancient was the simple, "In the name of the Lord Jesus, or Jesus Christ.” This practice was known among Marcionites and Orthodox; it is certainly the subject of controversy in Rome and Africa about 254, as the anonymous tract de rebaptismate ("On rebaptism") shows."
321 AD Constantine enforced solar worship upon his imperial troops and made Sunday the official Roman Empire day of rest and worship.
324 AD Emperor Constantine defeated his co-emperor Licinius and becomes sole ruler of the entire Roman Empire. In 324, Constantine enacted laws forbidding Jews to live in Jerusalem and to engage in any proselytizing activity. Constantine commanded: “You should consider not only that the number of churches in these provinces makes a majority, but also that it is right to demand what our reason approves, and that we should have nothing in common with the Jews.”
325 AD Constantine called together about 200 to 300 of his Catholic Bishops at the famous Council of Nicaea. He wanted unity in his vast Empire and the new
