About the the European Business Awards for the the Environment Rewarding success in in in eco-innovation Since its launch in in in 1987 the the European Business Awards for the the Environment (EBAE) highlight eco-innovative practices processes and and and products from all sectors of business in in in the EU and and and candidate/ acceding countries The competition has four award categories:
1 Management (with separate awards for micro/small and and medium/large entities
2 Product and and and Services
3 Process and and 4 Developing Country Cooperation In addition there is is an an Award for Business and Biodiversity the the the winner of of which is is selected from companies applying for any one of of the the the four categories In each case the the winners
are are those who who are are setting an an example for others to follow and who who best demonstrate progress through a a a a a a a combination of innovation environmental benefit economic viability social responsibility and commitment to the cause The Trophy
This 2018-2019’s trophy has been exclusively created by an an an Austrian upcycling factory in in Vienna the Trash_Design Manufaktur (TDM) TDM which is is part of the Disassembly and and Recycling Centre (DRZ) produces socially and and ecologically sustainable design products from parts of old electrical appliances such as jewellery furniture and accessories Moreover the the company offers jobseekers a a a a a a meaningful employment and support in in in re-entering the the labour market as a a a a a a socio-economic operation of of the the Wiener Volkshochschulen (VHS)
Vienna Vienna and on behalf of of the the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS) in Vienna Vienna This trophy consists entirely of upcycled materials :
• Glass of a a a a a a discarded scanner or copier motifs sandblasted • 6mm-printer-bar of of a a a defective printer printer (former “Sled” of of the print print print head) curved and satin • Stainless steel sheet of a a a a a tumble dryer drum (Shield for for the the laureate brackets for for fixing the the glass) and • Old-Wooden pallets used as as the base The 2018 edition for the first time acknowledges EBAE’s Rising Stars These
are companies whose applications have made a a a a a a a a a a a particular impression on on on the the jurors in in in respect of of the the the exciting or or innovative nature of of their product/process/services/management approach but where the the activities are are still
at at an early stage or or unproven or or who are are pioneers
in a a a a a a a a a a a a a national/regional context but not necessarily at at a a a a a a a a European level Today perhaps more than ever the the European Commission understands the the the important role it it has to to to play in in promoting these pioneers
who contribute to to to to a a a a a a a transition towards a a a a a a a green economy and inspire citizens to to to change their lifestyle As Dr Debra Roberts the the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) co-Chair said:
