of her inhibitions. It raises the question as to why do we do, what we do, at the time we do it?
My mother remarried and one year later gave birth to their son Louie. The decision by my mother’s husband in collaboration with my Aunty Anne was that I should remain living with my grandmother, and for my sister to remain with my mother and Alex. That arrangement continued until 1958, making it a total of 5 years that I lived with my grandmother.
The other event was my Bar mitzvah. I arrived in Australia in April 1953; in November of that year would be my thirteenth birthday, the age to have my Bar mitzvah. I had never been to cheder or experienced a Jewish way of life or education. My first attendance in a Schule was when my father died, therefore, doing my Bar mitzvah was a frightening experience. The whole event was organised by my Aunty Anne who arranged for Rabbi Krass to tutor me for the event. An event it was, with over 150 persons attending, none of whom were known to myself or my mother; that was scary. I need to add in that same year I had my appendix removed.
