the CEO liked the proposal and recognised my belief and commitment to the concept. It was a bittersweet consolation, for here was the opportunity for me to prove my worth and what I always believed in, albeit I had to forgo the financial reward of not having equity in the project. I now had the opportunity to see this project through to completion and earn fees through management and marketing. My financial future was reshaping.
Wayne at 11 years of age had taken up soccer with the Hakoah Club; he in fact started at an earlier age and I was appointed the team’s coach with Mike Simons as team manager. It became an all-encompassing event, training, and weekend match competitions. Similarly, with Wayne’s swimming events, we attended swim meets and it helped to maintain the connection between us. Although in hindsight I think I took it all too seriously being competitive and wanting to win, especially our soccer
comps. Finally, we won the grand- final. It was tough on Wayne having his father for the coach.
