which resulted in Sandra’s announcement that she was pregnant and firmly committed to having her child.
The announcement was a shock to the system, at 48 years old I had not expected any more children, I was given the option by Sandra and I elected to become an active and committed father to this child.
Anthea was born on the 21 December 1988; I attended her birth which was my first as I was not able or allowed to attend the birth of my other children. It was an amazing, unforgettable experience and cemented my commitment as a father to Anthea. We have never lived together; however, it never hindered the father and daughter relationship even though we have lived through our trials and tribulations.
Anthea has evolved as a beautiful, wonderful, intelligent, talented, strong, and together lady who any parent would be proud of.
One year previously, in August 1987 I went on a memorable overseas holiday. First the Greek Island of Mykonos to meet my friend Shelley Freeman who was on a one year around the world trip. It was her birthday, so my arrival was a surprise. We had a fun time together; she continued her journey, and I went on to Dublin, Ireland and stayed with the family of my Sydney Irish friends, Barbara, and James. It was meant to be a one-week holiday, but they were so hospitable and fun to be with that they insisted I stay longer and took me on a whirlwind trip around County Cork. From there I went on my first ever trip to Israel and stayed with an elderly couple who were related to my sister-in-law Sandra. The husband Shmulick lived on a Kibbutz and his wife lived in Tel Aviv; they had been married
