Trying to find yourself reflected in the 1664 mirrors of the Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is an activity in itself, but the iconic building was actually designed to store and exhibit art. The Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen is the first art storage facility in the world that offers ac- cess to a museum’s complete collection without the mediation of a curator. The Depot has a different dynamic to that of the museum: there are no exhibitions, but the public can browse amongst 151,000 artworks, either alone or with a guide, and get behind-the-scenes glimp- ses of conservation, restoration and provenan- ce research.
