                   Innovation and emergency aid
The urgency and necessity of seizing opportunities
Five years ago, the Dutch Coalition for Humanitarian Innovation (DCHI) was founded. The reason: the notion that the number of humanitarian crises is growing and that the budgetary possibilities for providing emergency aid are not keeping pace. To tackle this issue, there must be much more cooperation between humanitarian organisations, science, business, and government. ‘Only then can we achieve greater impact,’ says DCHI board chair and UNICEF CEO Suzanne Laszlo. We have already learned a lot about the value of asking the right questions and about openly searching for solutions with external parties. But we still have a long way to go, for example in formulating the right question and scaling up solutions.
