On February 2, 2022, the Broward County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated promoted and encouraged international literacy awareness and the joy of reading a book aloud in recognition of 2022 WORLD READ ALOUD DAY. On WORLD READ ALOUD DAY, BCAC shared the story TROMBONE SHORTY, read aloud by Golden Globe award-winning actress ANGELA BASSETT, a member of Delta Sigma Theta, and the story HOW ROCKET LEARNED TO READ, by BCAC Soror MARIE GOODRUM JOHNSON. WORLD READ ALOUD DAY is a global effort created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic and is celebrated annually in over 173 countries. This campaign encourages bringing people together through literacy and sharing the connection of reading stories aloud in diverse communities.
