support and encourage them while they are in an environment that may ridicule and be harsh toward anyone that does not follow the worldly crowd. This is one of the primary moments to keep the life of Jesus front and center as an example for them to lean on. If a child attends a Christian private school, this can potentially be a great spiritual training ground into adulthood. In some cases, graduates of Christian schools and Christian colleges may run the risk of becoming so insular that they only know how to interact with other believers, lacking evangelism strength and resist leaving their comfort zone. So, there are positives and challenges to being in both settings.
IN-PERSON OR REMOTE CLASSES
A quality educational experience for your child is worth fighting for. Many education and learning spaces in the United States are rooted in a system and way of thinking that is no longer relevant and applicable to the needs of many learners. As many schools welcome students back into the building (post-COVID safety mandates), some students are not interested in returning after a year of success working remotely. The linear model of each student learning at the same pace probably never was effective. Although some are attempting to customize and differentiate for learners, the Scripture framework by which we live only has a form of godliness in education spaces.
The public school model is expected to appeal to the masses. Therefore, guard your faith with all due diligence, and stay connected to the messaging and events that take place in your child’s school. Be clear about what you stand for and believe, because this world is becoming more antagonistic against God’s expectations for our lives. Please remember that our children are watching everything we say, don’t say, do and don’t do. Our example of not yielding to the world’s standard of living is the cross we bear with joy. As Apostle Felton would say to his children when they were school- aged, “If God wanted you to participate in that worldly activity, He would have had you born to another family.” S
In summation, some may argue that if you have your child in a public school, one cannot expect to have Christian ways of doing things. That may be accurate, however, a parent still has the right to opt out of certain activities that would violate God’s Word. Children growing up in Holiness homes may be apt to witness to their unsaved classmates in public schools and become stronger in the Lord through being in a setting that is not a Christian environment. It’s important for parents to stay in good communication with their children and to
