P. 16
“Unless I wash you, you won’t belong to me.” 9 Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!”
When Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, He displayed a level of love for them they had not experienced or seen before. When we humble ourselves before the Lord, as well as before our brothers and sisters, it negates anything that you or anybody else would say against them. It is a powerful way to show kindness, to bless them, and
to give much love.
If Jesus were here today, would you allow Him to wash your feet? Could you humble yourself and wash someone else’s feet? When we take on this posture of love and servanthood the way that Jesus did, it is almost impossible to ever talk against a person again! As a member of the Body of Christ, we need to be together—I need you and you need me. We can only accomplish this by loving and serving one another.
John 1:12-17 NLT
“12 After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? 13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. 14 And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. 15 I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to
you. 16 I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. 17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.”
May we too be an example like Jesus—willing to humble ourselves and wash one another’s feet in love. S
A Time of Refreshing: Make Me New
Scriptures teach us that realizing God’s will is the result of habitually conforming our thinking and behavior to God’s Word over a lifetime. As Christian women, it is vital for our minds to be renewed with a new way of thinking about life: worldly ideas, attitudes, and prejudices are to be replaced by thoughts that conform to God’s ways according to His Word. The messages in this series will encourage and exhort you to allow the Lord to have ALL of you so that He can do a complete work and Make You New.
