The John Paul II Pastoral Centre for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver, British Columbia is a busy place, frequented by
pastors, priests, seminarians, principals, teachers, and lay faithful.
Now, one of the first things these people will see when they visit the Pastoral Center is a beautiful new Level 1 atrium for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd!
With the blessing and support of Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, and thanks to the hard work of many generous volunteers, the Edith Stein Atrium is now complete. A picture of its patron, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein), “meeting the needs” of the children with whom she was imprisoned during the Second World War, hangs outside the door.
In September, catechists will begin serving the three to six-year-old children of those who work in the building, as well as children from local parishes. The atrium will also provide opportunities for CGS “seed-

planting”, observation, and catechist formation.
The building is buzzing with excitement. Everyone loves the atrium and anticipates the joy of seeing young children about the place!
A great fruit of this past year was having the time and opportunity to prepare this wonderful space!

During the last several months, l was very fortunate
to engage in a dynamic Calgary book
study of The Good Shepherd and the Child led by Catechist Sheila Schneider, located in Western Canada. For myself, the entire book study was a “joyful journey”.
Not only was I able to delve deeper into this text through engaging weekly discussions, but l also was provided the opportunity to form wonderful relationships with fellow associate
members. I greatly look forward to beginning my Level 1 Catechist training and being able to work more extensively with young children in the formation of their faith. In the meantime, learning opportunities
such as this are so very appreciated!
This entire experience, for myself, was a true gift from the Holy Spirit and the learning and friendships I made, true fruits of the vine.
