A Land of Rich Heritage and Natural Beauty
Southern Maryland boasts a thousand miles of shoreline with fossil-laden cliffs, quiet tidal inlets and sandy beaches. The story of Maryland began here in the 17th century, with the landing of two small ships, The Ark and Dove, on March 25, 1634 at St. Clement’s Island. Native people lived on this land for many centuries before the arrival of the Ark and Dove. The profound history and remarkable beauty of Southern Maryland resonate throughout our three counties
of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s.
