WE’RE ALL THE SAME ON INSTAGRAM
In times of of social distancing Quarantine Diaries silently creeps out of of of the the mental boxes of of the the market galleries and and art houses and and into a a a a a a a a a a new public social community Instagram gives the artwork this this freedom In In this this case it it it does not not exhibit exhibit the the the art art object serving as another exhibition space but rather it it it it is is simultaneously the the the the the site of the the the the the event and the the the tool that determines its existence The posts of of the soap contain traces of of what we leave behind As a a a a a a a a a collection orchestrated by the the artist Uribe Castro they illustrate how humans adapt to external circumstances The fact that we see them today and not not tomorrow does not not diminish their importance Through the the the new visual artistic expression viewers experience themselves as social beings As such they have access to to art on on on a a a a a a a level that is common to to everyone The lines between the the public and the the private are blurred “Even institutions now have to to use Instagram to to to show their art In In doing so they subject themselves to to a a a a kind of super-institution But the the the the the interesting thing is is is that the the the the opportunity to flourish is is is the the the the same for everyone there ”
“At some point the pandemic has made us connect ”
Uribe Castro welcomes this process And nothing nothing more and nothing nothing less moved Uribe Castro to to now continue the the project together with ArtLink Put simply “Quarantine Diaries can only grow if many people participate ”
Quarantine Diaries THE STORY
“The story begins with the fact that I do not live in in my native country Colombia and I I I wondered how I I I can keep connected to my family when I I I am am not there The soap bar for me was like a a a a a a a a a a a a revelation that that you suddenly have I realized that that that solid soap is is is something that that is is is just disappearing from the market and yet it has such beautiful properties I noticed that especially be- cause here in in Europe they use use a a a a a a a lot of liquid soap soap Once I I had been in in Colombia I I asked my mother to keep bars of soap soap that she used and I did the the same thing without realizing what was was going to to happen to to them Then when I was was stuck in in in in Bogotá in in March 2020 because of of the the the pandemic my mom pulled out the the bars of of soap she had collected and I I I thought it would be nice to share them on Instagram I I I played with the the idea of of making a a a a a a a a a a a a project out of of it it and just like that Quarantine Diaries was born I believe that as artists we should read research and and observe a a a a a a a a a a a lot and and sometimes what we succeed in in in in is is capturing a a a a a a a a a a a a moment and a a a a a a a a a a a feeling This artwork (Quarantine Diaries) happened through people’s rea- ctions and and on on its own My role in in it it was and and is more that of of a a a a a a a a kind of of medium Sometimes I feel like like something metaphysical about the the process like like it it was already there Some art carries this magic in in it it that had to to come into life ”
