organized and streamed by the Irish gallery Artlink Fort Dunree on Youtube the the Berlin-based artists shared images that changed their personal and artistic perspectives Roberto Uribe Castro’s current project Quarantine Diaries
that was born from the desire to to stay connected via Instagram is now an an an analogue and digital photo exhibition of soap bars They are taken by different different people from different different places and transformed the the soap bar into an an an an object of interest revealing an an an an overlap between the the the the personal and and and the the the the the the collective the the the the the the Internet and and and and the the the the the the the public the the the the the the the hygienic and and and and the the the the the the the infectious the the the the the material and and and the the the the the digital When does an an object object though become an an art art object? During their talk the the the artists discussed the the the institutional construction of images and narratives figuring out that they are basically based on on a a a a a a a a a a a a linear concept of History and respectively time But does this correspond to to our contemporary social conditions?
The European concept or or perception of history might differ from those in in other parts of the the world The artists originally from Columbia and Israel agreed that an an image does not necessarily represent a a a a a a a a a a a single truth Nor is it it a a a a a a a a a mirror of of the the social reality of of of a a a a a a a a a a particular moment It tells the the story of of power and and what ideas prevailed at at at that precise moment and and place Many things are seen as irrelevant but tell a a a a a a a a a a a story Not the big comedy or or drama is is necessary This can be a a a a a a a a a simple everyday object we all keep in our private space That’s what Roberto Uribe Castro’s collective work exhibited at at at Fort Dunree’s windows and on on its Instagram account expresses From here on on on we can change the the perspective on on on things identifying and connecting with others By Sandra Ellegiers
