Listen.... Just really get into the music, whatever it is that you love, get deep off into it and let it lead you down the rabbit hole of discovering other music or the origins of the music you like. One of the things I love about hearing DJs is the story they tell with the music.
Take the time to research the artists and the people who make the music, the producers, and the musicians. One thing will always lead you to another. Music is a never-ending world to be discovered!
• Be your authentic self.
• Connect and create with other artists that resonate with you.
• Check in with yourself and do self-assessments.
• Research what you resonate (what makes me feel good?) with you and Identify the things that make you sad.
• Involve yourself in nights, events, or projects that resonate.
• Evaluate and weigh out opinions and information so you may only absorb what applies to you.
• Learn your equipment so that you can set it up and break it down yourself.
• Work at a record store if possible, it is a never-ending world of music that will expand your musical prowess.
• You can’t be afraid to fail! Failure can be your greatest teacher. No one gets to where they are or becomes great without having moments of failure.
• Playing live, inevitably, things will not always go as planned. When things go wrong – It’s your RECOVERY that matters most!
