TODAY’S VISITORS NEWCASTLE EMLYN
I extend a warm welcome to the players, committee and supporters
of Newcastle Emlyn RFC. It’s only in recent years that our two clubs have
regularly played one another. A cup clash in December 2019 was, I believe,
the first occasion Newcastle Emlyn visited Parc de Pugh before we found
ourselves together in the new Championship West. Both sides achieved
promotion to the new Premiership and here, we face one another again.
The two matches last season were entertaining encounters. Both sides
sought to play an expansive game of rugby and I anticipate nothing less
today. Those of us who made the long journey to the attractive town of
Newcastle Emlyn received a wonderful welcome.
Both sides today have started the season with a mixed bag of results.
We lost our first two games against Newbridge and Neath before picking
up our first win at Cross Keys last Saturday. Our visitors by contrast started
with an excellent win against Cardiff Met before losing to Bonymaen and
suffering a heavy defeat at the hands of Merthyr. Both teams will be looking
to improve and build on the early results of the season. We have ahead the
makings of an entertaining contest!
Regardless of the result, on behalf of Brecon RFC, I wish both teams
success over the remainder of the season. I also sincerely hope that we can
reciprocate the great welcome we received from our West Wales neighbours.
Today Brecon Athletic play their first home game of their league campaign
against Rumney RFC. With so much quality rugby on show, it promises to
be a day to remember at Brecon RFC! Go well bois!
