Plans for Clean Growth
Local Authority GHG Map (beis.gov.uk)
Emission sectors
• Electricity & Heat Generation
• Transport
• Residential Buildings
• Industry & Business
• Agriculture
• Land Use, Land Change & Forestry
• Waste Management
• Public sector
Skills System
• To be flexible to meet these needs of SME’s
and learners
• Short courses be offered, not always the
longer study courses
• Work closely with further education, to see
what can be done to allow that flexibility
Young People
• Future of the labour market (30% of the
labour market by 2030 will be Generation Z)
• People, Influencers and advice to motivate
them towards these skills
• Is there good careers advice available to
highlight the opportunities?
• Employers be more heavily involved with
schools
• There is good practice out there, needs to
become mainstream
• Harness young people's environmental
awareness
Partnership approach
This can't be done alone, there must be a
collaborative effort from Industry, Careers Wales,
colleges, education heads etc
Just Transition
• Making sure no one is left behind, where job
roles cease to become viable, a clear plan for
reskilling and upskilling into other roles is
required
• Ensuring we have that diverse workforce
• Ensuring mainstream equality into the Net
Zero Transition
• Some sectors have ageing workforces and
skills are being lost, how can we retain these
skills?
Figure 1:
Each Emissions sector does not sit alone, a full
understanding of the sectors is required across
Wales. e.g. Businesses would not only have to
think about their premises and products but
also heat generation, transportation, waste and
recycling etc.
Skilled Workforce
• All jobs will change, some jobs will be
lost, and new ones created
• Need to upskill and reskill to make sure
competence and to mitigate job losses
• Identify key roles that require new skills
• SME’s need help with technology or
Infrastructure tutors etc
• Apprenticeships, net zero skills must be
appended to all current programmes.
• Journey to competence- set out different
pathways for occupations
For Carmarthenshire to
make most impact on
reducing emissions,
specialist knowledge will
be required for emissions
reduction of:
• Agriculture
• Transport
• Domestic
