On the southern shore of Llangorse Lake, the wildflower meadows, reed beds and
bird hide at Llangasty are an ideal spot for watching wildlife. The meadows around
the bird hide are on level terrain and support a wide variety of wildflowers, including
orchids, which carpet the meadows during the summer. Llangorse Lake is designated
a dragonfly hotspot. Many different birds live by and visit the Lake including wildfowl
and waders. The bird hide is designed to accommodate wheelchairs. It also has
benches and built-in bird guides, There are two routes to the bird hide:
a) The route from the car park at Llangasty Church passes through some gates.
This is a level and gentle ½ mile/ 800m walk across meadows and a small area of
woodland along a gravel path.
b) If you are unable to walk far or you use a wheelchair, there is a route which allows
cars to get closer to the bird hide. If you wish to use this route, please contact Ty Mawr
on 01874 611350 who can help you access it. This route should only be used during
the drier times of the year, with help needed to open the two large gates to the slipway.
A gently- sloping, bumpy, wide, grass path leads to the ramp up to the bird-hide itself.
This site is sometimes flooded in winter.
