Inference of the data above indicates that gender imbalances are most prevalent in the ‘Mining and Quarrying’, ‘Construction’, ‘Agriculture’ and ‘Manufacturing’ sectors where the workforce is dominated by males.
The opposite is true for sectors such as ‘Human Health & Social Work Activities’ and ‘Other Service Activities’ and ‘Education’ where employment is dominated by females.
These patterns are substantiated by the primary intelligence gathered by the RLSP whereby sectoral employment exhibits similar trends. Much of this can be attributed to issues around perceptions of key sectors and the content of careers, advice and guidance provided to young learners about the changing and inclusive nature of much of these traditionally gender stereotyped sectors and industries.
