Stronger, Fairer Greener Wales: Net Zero Skills Action Plan (gov.wales)
Net Zero
Skills Action Plan
A skills action plan was launched by Welsh
Government in February 2023. It sets out a journey
for identifying skill requirements for
decarbonisation across Wales targeting key
emissions sectors.
Currently the county of NPT makes 25.4% of all
Welsh emissions with the vast majority 91.8%
coming from Industry (96% of Industry emissions
coming from Large Industrial Installations)
Furthermore, NPT produces 62.6% of all industrial
emissions across all of Wales.
NPT has the 2nd highest Per Capita emissions in
England and Wales with London topping the table.
However, a more accurate measure is to look at
total emissions by LA and NPT are ranked 11th
highest in the UK. (Figure 2)
This places a clear focus for NPT to fast-track
decarbonisation education.
Figure 1 Below displays NPT emissions sectors
tracked since 2016 which clearly shows industry
emissions in the county are the main current
concern. Therefore, skills in understanding and
decarbonising industry need to be at the forefront
of the authorities Net Zero plans.
