waiting staff, publicans, housekeepers etc, but in contrast, huge increases
in café, bistro, chef’s, events management, sales activities, management
etc.

The sector serves as an important entry point for many young people
entering the job market and is often described as providing the nation’s
favourite and best first job. The sector equips young people with core
fundamental easily transferable personal skills i.e. customer service,
communication, planning, organising, attention to detail, numeracy
and unlocks your creativity. All skills that are transferable to other
industries should you wish to change career at a future time.
Many new exciting things happening in South West Wales, all will require
strong Hospitality, Leisure, Tourism & Retail skills.
With over 13,000 Retail, Hospitality and Leisure businesses across
South West Wales this sector is one of the most important and
widespread in the region. More people are choosing staycations and
visiting our region than ever before, and people will always want to dine
out, participate in leisure activities and obviously go shopping.
In addition, there are many new Leisure activities been planned for the
region, from Cable Cars in Swansea through to Enterprise Zones,
Freeports, Metro rail links etc, which will all require strong hospitality
sector support.
This ensures huge flexible job security, but not forgetting the beauty
that working in hospitality gives, being the joy, you gain from the role,
but why else should you want to work in hospitality?

✓ Around 25,400 people in SWW are employed in the sector,
many part time with flexible work patterns to suit work life
