Neyland Rugby Football Club was founded in 1885 and was predominantly a railway town
at the end of the line built by Isambard K. Brunel to establish trade with Ireland.
In the early years, we competed in the West of Llanelli League and the Pembrokeshire Knock Out
Cup and we were winners of both competitions on a few occasions including winning the league
Three times consecutively. Further cup and league success followed throughout the years.
Our only full Wales international was Tommy "Pete" Evans capped in 1924. Graham Tregidon was
capped by the Welsh Schools in 1953/54. Roland Price won a Youth cap in 1958/59. Lee Jones
won a Wales B cap in 84/85.
In the Welsh Cup, we have played First class clubs at the time against Ebbw Vale and Newport
and Dunvant in 1994.
Despite not having a Comprehensive school in the Town we keep producing players from our junior
sections who are proud to pull on the Black shirt. We thank everyone over the years and everyone
at present for coaching. With a 140 years of history, it is hard to fit everything into such a short
programme size note.
Nearly all of today's team have come through from mini rugby to youth and thanks must go to
former youth coaches Steven Evans and Colin Picton who both produced successful teams. Thanks
also to today's coaches Steven Hamer, Matt Richards and Andrew Slark and Team manager Mark
James for the hard work and effort put in this season. Credit to the players under the captaincy
of George Williams and Vice Captain Owain Evans who set a target of winning our league and
achieving it with Two games to go.
We are looking forward to playing Gwernyfed for the first time ever and hoping that whatever the
outcome rugby is the winner on the day.
To our players the club is proud of your achievements this season good luck today and enjoy the
occasion. To our fantastic support and sponsors thank you once again - it's greatly appreciated by
us all.
Peter Davies.
