The RLSP investigated the City & Guilds report
further to understand if year 10 pupils across the
region echoed the C&G report findings. RLSP found
there is a similar picture in the region. 445 responses
were collected.
In terms of improving confidence:
• 93% stated they would like to do Work
Experience
• 83% stating they would welcome “In Class” work
experience, expressing a desire to understand
more about the workplace in school.
• 68% stated they would be willing to take part in
work ready programmes
• Just 7% stated they were not going onto further
education
• When asking what career choices they preferred,
below are how subjects ranked
Generation Z – RLSP findings
• 38% stated they would consider opening their own
business
• Just 30% feel their aspirations can be met locally
Summary
The finding clearly suggest that skills that the
region require, young people are pursuing, such
as Sciences, Computing, Engineering. However, it’s
a concern that such a large proportion of learners
feel their aspirations can’t be met locally.
Creative makes up a very small volume of the
workforce and this ranked as 4th highest as a
career to pursue. Skilled Trade and Manufacturing
ranked quite low,
New skills that will be needed in the region such
as Environmental, and Renewables ranked very
low, even though studies suggest that young
adults look for sustainability credentials with their
employer.

✓ Large proportions stated Health Care. Health
Care being the most difficult sector to recruit in
Pembrokeshire, how can this enthusiasm be
harnessed to transfer into a future workforce?

✓ Improve sector perceptions for Skilled Trades
and Engineering. These are core economy
industries and should be positively promoted.
