With the church behind you walk right, back the way you came, as far
as the corner. Go right over a stile into the churchyard and following
the hedge, walk to another stile at the back. Cross into a field and
turn right to follow the hedge to a gate and stile. Pass through and
keep to the right of the field, following a stream to a large oak-tree
and yellow arrows.

Description:
Hay-on-Wye is renowned for a number of reasons. It is known as the Book Capital of Britain - some say the
world. It is also the place where the Wye Valley Walk and Offa's Dyke Path part company. Hay is also the
centre of some of the best walking in Wales. These five walks should introduce you to some of the delights
of this area. This walk from Cusop Church takes you up over Cusop Hill with its fantastic views. The views
are over Hay-on-Wye to start off with, but after going 'over the top' the views are to Hatteral Ridge and the
Black Mountains. The final part is down through Cusop Dingle.
Walk 4447: this walk starts by following the Wye Valley Walk and crossing Pontwaen Golf Club. After
reaching Priory Farm the route swings round to head south, past a motte and bailey on its way back to Hay.
Walk 4448: the walk leaves Hay to travel west on the Wye Valley Walk as far as Llowes. From here the route
heads north-east as far as Clyro before heading past the castle and back to Hay.
Walk 4449: this short walk takes you round Hay-on-Wye, passing the interesting Church of St Mary's as well
as wandering through The Warren. The return route directs you through the main streets and the hundreds
of bookshops.
Walk 4451: the start of the walk is a good climb on the Offa's Dyke Trail. The reward is the lovely view,
followed by a gradual descent back down to Hay and the pubs and tea rooms.
Access info:
Parking is outside the church. Just east of Hay on the B4352, take the road signed to Cussop. Continue up
this narrow road until you see a sign to the right to St Mary's Church. Take this, which will lead to the church
and car park.
