SOARING KITES
The provision for girls to play rugby continues to grow in South Powys with The Red Kites rugby
hub offering girls from under 8s through to under 16s opportunities to pursue and develop their
skills in line with the WRU’s pathway.
Girls’ rugby is now being offered in every corner
across Wales and The Red Kites consistently have a
good number of girls turning out for training and
playing in games and festivals. It was particularly
pleasing that the u14s won the WRU’s East Wales
Matrix Plate competition.
In June, we ran our very successful festival of girls’
rugby, the first since before covid, with girls from
across Wales including Aberaeron, Aberystwyth
and hubs from all across South Wales. The day was
a real team effort hosted at Gwernyfed with GRFC’s
ladies helping out on the pitches and with Talgarth
Football Club providing facilities and refreshments.
It is fantastic that The Red Kites has seen a number
of talented players getting noticed and being
selected for representative rugby.
Congratulations and good luck to Meg Roe on her
selection for The Cardiff Rugby Under18 squad.
We are extremely proud and delighted for Red
Kites and Gwernyfed RFC’s Tilly Vucaj and Shanelle
Williams who both represented Wales u18 in this
year’s Six Nations tournament - we look forward to
seeing them continue in their rugby journeys.

Kites, to our coaches, first aiders, referees, parents,
grandparents and sponsors for supporting girls
