Another year of growth for Brecon Mini and Juniors.
Alan Taylor
Chairman, Mini and Junior Section.
We currently have over 175 children registered from age 6 to 16, who are regularly playing Rugby for the club. This season saw 16 new starters in the under 7's, along with large number of new players throughout the age groups, increasing our annual registration numbers.
Six players from the under 10's and 11’s team represented South Powys Schools, and all players involved did themselves proud, against some strong district sides. This year’s under 11’s squad lost out in the semi-final of Welsh School’s shield competition, but were triumphant in the National Vase 7’s final. Our U15's along with one under 14, fielded 15 players between the South Powys and Swansea Valley school squads, which saw them going head-to-head in the last game of the group stages. Swansea Valley came out on top, eventually winning the Morgan Griffiths plate final in the Principality Stadium. Well done to all those players involved and good luck to those lucky enough to be selected for both age groups next season.
Our end of season presentations, took a slightly different format this year, with over 250 players, coaches and their families enjoying a fun family day at Parc De pugh. We were lucky enough to secure Wales and British Lion George North to present the awards, which was the icing on the cake of an enjoyable day.
Well done to all the players for a great season and to all the individual award winners.
I would like express my thanks to all our coaches, who give up their time to develop and nurture our young players. Thanks must also go to the all the referees, first aiders and parents who help out in the kitchen at home games.
It’s impossible to continue to run a successful section, without the help of all these volunteers and we are very grateful for their commitment and dedication.
As a section, we always welcome both new and returning players throughout the age groups. We are always on the lookout for new coaches, referees and first aiders, and the club is commit- ted to providing any training needed, to fulfil these roles. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you are interested in being part of our thriving team. I wish all our players and coaches the very best for the 2023/24 season!
