Manufacturing currently makes up around 5% of
the labour market in Swansea however, with the
Blue Eden plans for battery manufacturing, the
demand for compound semiconductors, Freeport
and initiatives to ensure local circular economy
material supply chain demands, this sector is set
to grow in Swansea and the surrounding
counties.
Ensuring the county can keep supply chain,
manufacture and innovation local and reducing
the emissions of the county’s 3rd largest emitting
sector all require an investment in skills

industry 4.0 working practices.
Digital, STEM and Engineering skills for this
sector are predicted to increase significantly as
industry look to streamline processes and
increase productivity within the confines of a
tightened labour market.
