Within the Swansea Council LDP, Leisure, tourism
and heritage-led development has potential to
deliver significant economic and cultural benefits,
including facilitating regeneration of the Swansea
Central Area, and enhancing the rural economy
Sustainable tourism
High quality natural environment, landscapes, and
coastline are important assets
• St David’s Centre, creating a dominant retail and
leisure destination at the heart of the City Centre
• Tourism, leisure, culture, sports and major events
The City Centre contains a significant number of
hotels, tourist attractions and leisure facilities, There
are possibilities to increase the number of tourist
attractions, cultural and leisure facilities within the
urban area, particularly in the City Centre and urban
waterfront, to help reinforce the area’s important
coastal heritage and complement the natural
beauty of the County’s landscape.

✓ Change sector perception of long hours low pay – to exciting fun engaging and

✓ Proprietor upskill to encourage high street diversification and attract new markets
✓ Premises retrofit
✓ Embed Essential Traits in younger people, allow and encourage confidence building and
effective communication activity
All the LDP HL&T initiatives and objectives will
require a strong flow of enthusiastic and
confident customer experience makers into
the sector.
However, with “64% of young people in the
C&G youth Misspent research, stating that it is
not easy for them to get a good job, most
common reason was they didn’t feel confident
or mentally ready”, action needs to be in place
to reverse this statistic.
HL&T is a crucial sector for providing
accessible and flexible jobs, with opportunities
to develop valuable and transferrable essential
traits, (the sector serves as an important entry
point for many young people entering the job
market and is often described as providing the
nation’s favourite and best first job.)
It also has the flexibility of working hours to
accommodate those where traditional 9-5
roles are not achievable
