TODAY’S VISITORS YSTRAD RHONDDA
On behalf of Brecon RFC, I extend a warm welcome to the Players, Committee,
Members and Supporters of Ystrad Rhondda RFC.
Prior to the introduction of National Leagues, we had regular contact with Ystrad
with both teams playing within the Mid District Cup. During the 1979/80 Season
we faced one another in the semi-final of that competition at Parc de Pugh. We
won that match and progressed to the final but that was the last time that Brecon
defeated Ystrad in Brecon. Since then, we have played one another in Mid District
Cup matches, including the Final in 2023, with Ystrad holding the upper hand on
each occasion. However, earlier this season, we achieved a notable league victory,
in a hard-fought contest, at Gelligaled Park by 22 points to 14.
As the season has progressed both teams have had similar sets of results. Ystrad
now stand in 6th place in the table with a total of 31 points while Brecon are in 7th
with 30 points. If recent form is anything to go by, both sides will be anxious to
post a victory this afternoon. Results since the start of the New year have been
disappointing. Brecon’s return has been a draw and two defeats while Ystrad have
claimed a win and two defeats in their three matches. So, there is little to separate
the two teams over the season to date. With that as the background, I am sure
that everyone will be looking forward to a close and exciting match this afternoon.
Pob lwc i bawb a mwynheuwch y prynhawn yma yn Aberhonddu.
Good luck to everyone and enjoy the afternoon here in Brecon.
