TODAY’S VISITORS NEATH RFC
On behalf of Brecon RFC I extend a warm welcome to the Players,
Committee, Members and Supporters of Neath RFC. Although both
clubs have a long history, today will be the Neath’s first visit to our
Clubhouse on The Watton and to Parc de Pugh.
This is not, however, the only time that the sides have faced one another
competitively in Brecon. The last occasion was October 1972 when Brecon
were drawn at home to face the might of the men of Neath, who were the
existing Cup Holders. That match was played at Penlan in front of a crowd
of around 2,000. As expected, and in spite of a gallant Brecon display, the
power of Neath proved too much and they ran out victors by 32-0.
With both teams having lost their opening matches last weekend, there will
be much to play for in this eagerly anticipated encounter. We will undoubt-
edly be looking to establish a winning mentality on our own patch while
Neath will be equally eager to kick start their campaign with an away win.
I am sure that we can look forward to a closely fought and entertaining
contest. However, and whatever the result, we wish both teams success
over the remainder of the season. We also sincerely hope that our visitors
enjoy a warm welcome, both at our Parc de Pugh, where they can enjoy
our new Match Day Bar, and back at the Clubhouse, where Sharon, our
stewardess, and her great team, will ensure that they are well catered for.
