Y PORTHMYN
CROESO WELCOME
I am writing to you on behalf of players and supporters of Llandovery RFC regarding sponsorship and advertising
opportunities for the forthcoming season.
As way of background, Llandovery is a small rural market town situated between the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains. We have a unique rugby history, as our rugby club was a founding member of the Welsh Rugby Union and we continue to provide a pathway for young people to engage and develop in our (Welsh) national game.
In addition to a range of junior, youth and community teams, we are almost unique in also running a semi-professional side within the Welsh Premiership league - playing world renowned sides such as Cardiff, Swansea and Newport. The Premiership is regularly covered on Welsh TV with a weekly summary on BBC Wales' "Scrum V". There is also live coverage of a full match each week and Llandovery RFC appeared six times in the season 2022-23. As a club, we are presently going through a period of sustained success, having finished 2nd in the 2022-23 season’s Indigo Premiership league. We went on to defeat Cardiff in the final of the league play-off and be crowned Welsh champions.
We are also extremely proud that the club continues to be a focal point for the local community offering not only junior and amateur rugby but also providing a community resource for a range of other local organisations. The ability for us as a small club from west Wales to not only compete at the highest level with the bigger clubs, but achieve this level of success as well as maintaining our community focus is not only down to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, supporters and management but is due in no small part to the ongoing support that we receive from individuals and organisations who sponsor the team.
As you can imagine as a semi-professional and a community club we rely on sponsorship and a variety of commercial initiatives to fund our activities. With your support we would like to perhaps share with you some more details of our history, values and achievements to see whether there is scope to build a sponsorship package. To illustrate why we think you might like to partner with Llandovery RFC we would perhaps initially identify the following features as relevant:
• We are focussed on our members and giving our young members the opportunity to live their dreams through rugby
• Llandovery is largely a farming community producing high quality beef and sheep. Our support, players and members
come from this farming community (not surprising then that our nickname is “the Drovers”!)
• The club is seen (across Wales) as a club that is (and has been for a number of years) as "punching above its weight".
It is worth bearing in mind that Llandovery has a population of just less than 2,000, whilst we regularly defeat large city
sides such as Cardiff, Swansea and Newport
• We have a proven track record in developing young players from our community and there is no better example than
Wyn Jones. Wyn started out his rugby career playing for the Junior Drovers, followed by the Youth XV and 2nd XV. Wyn graduated to the Scarlets, Wales and the British and Irish Lions and to date, he has won 48 caps for Wales. Wyn has come a long way from Llandovery Under 8s!
• The club is seen and used as a community resource providing meeting facilities for many local organisations including our local Young Farmers Club and other community clubs whilst also providing recycling facilities for the community and generating renewable energy amongst other entrepreneurial activities. Our role in the community was recognised by HRH the Prince of Wales (now King Charles III) when he, (on adopting Llwynywermod in the Borough of Llandovery as his only permanent residence in Wales) became our Patron. He has visited the club on a number of occasions.
Season 2023-24 will see regular league fixtures at Church Bank with an expanded Premiership. The standard of rugby will be of the highest order and we are confident that with our current squad we will once again challenge for honours. These are exciting times for the club and we have a variety of sponsorship opportunities highlighted within this booklet. I very much hope that you will come on board, support this fantastic club and joining us on our journey. As a club, we are committed to working with all our sponsors to develop a long-term relationship and as such we want to ensure that you get as much benefit from the relationship as we do. Therefore, we would look at ways in which we can increase coverage of your business association with Llandovery RFC through the website, social media and mainstream media, ensuring that your objectives and priorities are adequately met.
I very much hope that you will be in a position to consider supporting Llandovery RFC during the 2023/24 season and I would be happy to discuss further with you at a convenient time. Diolch yn fawr am eich amser.
Peter Rees Chairman, Llandovery RFC.
