Rome still has her eyes on the Anglican Church as the ultimate prize and is moving her own boundaries to find a place for the jewel in her crown.
The ?True Liberalism?of today has two new bottles; ?Feeling?and ?Freedom?, nothing else matters. Sexuality, money, and spirituality are now dominated by these two power forces. It MUST feel good and it MUST be free and unrestrained in its expression.
But the Oxford Movement will not die.
The deep wells of devotion to Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church keep springing up inrhizomaticgushes from deep within the realm of the Spirit.
No institution at the helm, no celebrities, no need for impresarios and noLa Technique; just the Wind of the Spirit doing what He wants, where He wants.
People all over the world are looking at the novels of Charlotte Yonge once again and falling in love with innocence. The gentle spirituality of John Keble is being sought after as pearls of great value. Most of all, people want to know the Jesus of the Gospels and the Church of the early centuries and leave behind the contemporary foolish, half-converted cowboy nonsense of vapour with sparkles.
This new movement though has moved far beyond the boundaries of Canterbury. This movement is engulfingallChristian Traditions and then moving on to change the world.
Its waves are gentle but strong. Where will it culminate?Only God knows.
But a day may be coming when Hagia Sophia is restored to a place of worship to the Trinitarian God of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and all mosques become houses of Christian prayer.
Where the temples of Hinduism are converted into centres of worship to the historic Jesus of the Bible as demons scream and flee and the Name of the Divine Christ rings in the cities, hills, and valleys of India.
Where the new Atheists weep as proverbial fools for their prior delusion, capitalists repent of their corruption and greed, and Marxists cry for mercy for their madness.
And, how long will it be?One cannot tell. But the Kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdom of God and His Christ and a new ?Two Bottle Orthodoxy?will emerge: The Blood of the Martyrs and the Oil of the Holy Spirit.
As we face the future we do so with joy and confidence and a spring in our step. Jesus is Lord and He is asserting His Lordship in ways that may make us feel a little uncomfortable, in ways that are designed to birth new creativity within us and new spiritual gifts to be employed to do His will. This new movement that has no name and cannot be easily defined embodies a term that we have looked at and we whisper it with a smile of knowing: Eucharistic Socialism.
