Page 6 - THE CHURCH BEFORE THE MOCKING WORLD
P. 6

The Liminal Desert is where the Church remains whilst she is being sifted and renewed. For those looking on and who are part of the process of this period of uncertainty, there are two primary, seemingly ambiguous, desires. On one hand, there is the desire for something completely new, and at the same time a hankering for the stability of the past.
It is a little like the ambiguity of the feeling of excitement one feels upon hearing of a new technological advance that will redefine the way we communicate instantly with all people everywhere. At the same time a hankering for the days when we could not be reached by anyone, could curl up with a good book, undisturbed in front of the fire with the family dog at our feet.
My honest opinion is that both of these yearnings are possible. Modernity can excite us, whilst at the same time be held accountable to antiquity.
There are several nexus points for such a dual enterprise; that of searching for the new and yet holding to the traditions of the past. The following short chapters hopefully be breadcrumbs along the trail.
