Chapter 4
Father and Daughter Time
Rebekah Mercer often visited Owl’s Nest to discuss business and politics with her father.
They were having an early-morning breakfast in the magnificently laid-out kitchen that would have been cherished by any gourmet or seasoned cook. It was outfitted with every modern-day gadget, including an AGA stove and a custom-built Bosch walk-in refrigerator. Cooking was raised up to a beautiful artform. Whether it was a lush cheese and herb omelet in the French style or simple, toasted, country bread with fresh butter and homemade raspberry jelly, a Mercer breakfast was always perfect.
Today Bekah had prepared a tasty, very British dish, of coddled eggs baked in a bed of fresh, baby spinach, creamy, mild, rich cheese and chopped, sweet cherry tomatoes from their own greenhouse.
He loved these private moments with Bekah, his middle child. She had a fine, analytical mind and was able to present information clearly and succinctly. She was Daddy’s girl in every way.
“Dad, have you noticed that Donald Trump is running for President as a Republican?” Bekah said, as she slipped a forkful of the delectable spinach, tomato, cheese, and egg mixture into her mouth. This was joy in every sense.
