In Memoriam
Gerald “Gary” Stoker, 91, passed away on June 1, 2024. Dr. Stoker was born in Terre Haute, Indiana. He attained his degree in aeronauti- cal engineering from Purdue University. After working at Embry-Riddle University, he was called into service to the U.S. Air Force. After serving, he attended medical school at Indiana University. He completed his internship at San
Diego County General Hospital and his residency in Dermatology at the University of Michigan, where he also taught as an assistant pro- fessor. Dr. Stoker moved to Tampa in 1971 and continued to practice Dermatology in Tampa, and later in Asheville, North Carolina, for over 40 years. He was president of the Hillsborough County Medical Asso- ciation from 1985-1986. Dr. Stoker was a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, Tampa Yacht & Country Club, The University Club, Avila Golf & Country Club, and Carrollwood Village Golf & Country Club. Gary enjoyed tennis, boating, and fishing, and he always had a joke to tell his patients and friends.
Dr. Stoker is survived by two sisters, five children, and seven grand- children.

The HCMA Foundation is the charitable arm of the HCMA. Estab- lished in 1993, our 501c3 organization has been awarding grants annu- ally, supporting over 20 different charities. The Foundation has also pro- vided a scholarship to a USF medical student for over fifteen years. And this year, began awarding the Annual Robert Yelverton, Sr., MD Memo- rial Scholarship to a fourth-year medical student who will be entering a residency program in obstetrics and gynecology.

On July 18th, HCMA Foundation 26th Charity Golf Classic hole-in- one prize recipient, Andrew Bright, was presented with a $10K check. Many thanks to Morgan Import Motorcars for their generous support of the Charity Golf Classic as our Hole-In-One sponsor with the $20K split prize. Due to Andrew’s ace, the HCMA Foundation also received $10K and was able to increase the number of grant recipients for the 2024 cycle. So much more than just a win-win situation!
