Meet Your President
During the HCMA Inauguration Dinner on May 7th, Damian Caraballo, MD, was installed as HCMA’s 121st President. Dr. Caraballo was born in Hollywood, FL, and is the fourth Damian Caraballo dating back to 19th century Spain; his son is number five. After meeting his future wife, Tara, at a party in their senior years at the UF, he moved to Tampa for medical school at USF, did his post-graduate training at UNC, then back to Tampa in 2010 to practice emergency medicine at UCH. Dr. Caraballo and Tara have three sons ages 15, 13, and 7. In his spare time, when he is not rooting on the Gators, Dolphins, Heat, Lightning, or Rays, he’s thinking about revisiting to Sanibel and Captiva islands.
“My passion has always been for advocacy and fighting for physician autonomy. I have an interest in medical economics (I studied economics and finance as my undergraduate degree) and lobbying Congress for reform. I hope to increase the camaraderie among physicians in the Tampa Bay community and show ways we can change the lives of physicians and patients for the better.”
