The history of our village and its people are one of lumbering, shipbuilding, fishing and farming. We come together through difficult times and this year is one that all our people in Albert County will endure and we will continue to work to keep our County and village moving forward with hope for the future.

MESSAGE FROM MAYOR
We are celebrating almost two centuries of a County which has changed and stayed the same all at once. We are privileged to witness daily the awe inspiring majestic scenery around us. As some would say, we are truly a people governed and shaped by the Tides of Fundy.
Each Village offers its own unique history and attractions, but when it comes to presenting ourselves to the world, we are one united community and we celebrate together what our forefathers have built and what our current communities offer.
Alma is proud to be a vital partner in making Albert County memorable. Happy 175th Birthday, with many more to come.
Kirstin H Shortt
Mayor, Village of Alma
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ACHS
It is a privilege for the Albert County Historical Society and the Museum to play an important role in sharing the amazing history and heritage of Albert County. Our hope is that AC175 will spark an interest for people (especially youth) to learn more about their home community and family history. Discovering our roots makes us feel connected to our ancestors, and gives us a sense of belonging.
My Albert County roots are deep, since my paternal Wright ancestors settled in Shepody (Hopewell) before 1803. When I read family diaries and letters, I am filled with respect and admiration of those generations before us. They were dedicated to family, church and community, but despite working hard, they still enjoyed social times such as ~ July 9, 1891, “A picnic to Grindstone Island on the steamer “Arbutus”. They attended cultural events ~ July 27, 1901, “Miss Pauline Johnson, poet reciter, gave one of her recitals in Oulton Hall, Albert”. Becoming aware of such historical events, brings to life, the people in our past!
As we celebrate the 175th anniversary of the proud history and heritage of Albert County’s past, we must also celebrate our present day communities and being blessed to live in peace, surrounded by nature’s beauty. Let’s ensure that Albert County’s heritage, both past and present, is passed on to future generations!
