Mette Vangsgaard: Flowers 20 x 30 x 25 cm
Mette Vangsgaard works in a multifaceted material practice with mixed media collages and glass-
and ceramic sculptures relating to nature and human. Her works often function as processed sense impressions of the social reality and are primarily about how people meet each other, how we understand and relate to each other and our surroundings. She investigates human conditions, dreams, and memory in motifs from the everyday life with features from symbolism, expressionism, and naïve art – always complemented with a contemporary humoristic consciousness about the absurdities and impossibilities of life. Her works witness to an interest in social classes and social structures, and the works achieve an expression that stretches from the refined and a coloristic sensitivity to the trashy and the raw.
Mette Vangsgaard (1968 DK) graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Art in 1996 and I 2011, she received The National Arts Foundation 3-year work grant. Vangsgaard is an active part of the artistic environment in Denmark and the North and she is represented at the KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art, DK; Vejen Art Museum, DK; CLAY Denmark’s Ceramic Museum, DK; Trapholt, DK; The National Arts Foundation, DK, and the New Carlsberg Foundation, DK.
